But the more advanced analytical tools, the ones that go deeper than the scorecard, have usually lived behind expensive subscriptions or required building your own database and analysis system from scratch.
My goal with this site is to give fans a glimpse behind that curtain. WicketWizard isn't trying to replace the professional platforms used by teams and broadcasters — it's about making advanced cricket statistics more accessible, and giving fans new ways to explore the game they love.
The foundation of the site is the excellent ball-by-ball database provided by Cricsheet. Using that data, I've built a collection of statistics, visualizations, and context-based metrics designed to go beyond the traditional scorecard and offer a deeper read on T20 cricket.
Now, a bit of honesty: none of these statistics are something I invented from scratch. I've always loved numbers, but I'm still early in my own analytics journey — learning more every day about how data can be used to tell better stories about the game.
A lot of the thinking behind WicketWizard's metrics traces back to the work of Australian cricket analyst Jarrod Kimber, particularly his concepts of True Strike Rate and True Economy. So what do I actually do? My background is in web design, not data science.
